Welcome to the
Small Business CD

A message to America’s Small Business Owners from the Commissioner of Internal Revenue and the Administrator, U.S. Small Business Administration.

Hotelbewertung LiepajaIn the past year, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has undergone important and dramatic changes on the road to fulfilling our commitment to modernizing the Agency to meet all of our customers’ needs. The progress we have made has been remarkable. We began with a commitment to protect taxpayer rights and to improve customer service. We now provide longer hours of operations and at convenient locations, increased options for filing and paying electronically, improved access to the Taxpayer Advocate, and problem solving days to resolve particularly difficult cases.

As part of the modernization process, the IRS is making an effort to improve the quality of service it provides to small businesses. This effort will culminate with the rollout of the various new operating divisions focused on customer segments, including the Small Business/Self Employed Operating Division, to be set up late 2000. The division will be managed by a team of senior executives dedicated to meeting your needs during all phases of your interactions with IRS – including pre-filing, filing and post-filing activities. The new Division is also being designed to provide tailored services and products to small businesses. During the transition, the IRS is making incremental improvements in customer service for small businesses.

One such effort is the development of the second edition "Small Business Resource Guide" on CD-ROM. The IRS and Small Business Administration (SBA) developed this interactive CD-ROM in order to provide small businesses with easy to access and understand answers to their tax questions and other important topics. In addition to organizing tax and non-tax information by business life cycle, the CD-ROM provides all of the tax forms in fill-in-the-blank format, all of the tax publications, and direct links to other regulatory agencies via the Internet.

cheap hotels in LiegeThe initial feedback we received from small businesses, small business counselors, and tax practitioners on the first edition of our CD-ROM was overwhelmingly positive. As a result, we immediately began work on the next generation CD-ROM. This new version has been updated and includes the latest tax forms and publications. It also contains a direct link to the "UPDATES" section on the IRS web site for additional forms and publications as they become available. The 2000 edition has also been expanded to include more information from other federal agencies, more external links, tutorials, alternative indexing to make it even easier to research topics and locate information, and an on-line subscription service. We look forward to your continued feedback on all of our products, and we hope that this and future products will give you the type of service you need and deserve.

The small business community is a very important partner in our ongoing modernization efforts. Please visit the Small Business Corner of the IRS Internet site at www.irs.gov for important up-to-date information. I look forward to working with you in the years to come.

Sincerely,
Charles O. Rossotti
Commissioner of Internal Revenue
