Important Changes

Standard mileage rate.urlaub Esbjerg buchenThe standard mileage rate for the cost of operating your car in1999 is 32 1/2 cents a mile for all business miles drivenbefore April 1. The rate is 31 cents a mile for business miles drivenafter March 31.

Car expenses and use of the standard mileage rate are explained inchapter 4.

Depreciation limits on cars.Generally, the total section 179 and depreciation deductions youcan claim for a car that you use in your business and first placed inservice in 1999 is $3,060. Depreciation on cars and the section 179deduction are covered in chapter 4.

Temporary work location.The IRS has reconsidered its definition of temporary forpurposes of determining whether travel expenses to a temporary worklocation are deductible. In general, employment at a work location istemporary if it is realistically expected to last (and does in factlast) for one year or less. See Temporary work location inchapter 4.
