Standard meal allowance.cheap hotels in LondonThe standard meal allowance for most areas in the United States is$30. However, the standard meal allowance is higher for many areas asshown in Appendix A. Use of the standard meal allowance isexplained in chapter 1.

Days you depart and return. For the days you depart forand return from a business trip, you can claim 3/4 of thestandard meal allowance amount. For more information, see Travelfor days you depart and return under Standard MealAllowance in chapter 1.

Federal crime investigations or prosecutions.Certain federal employees who are participating in federal crimeinvestigations or prosecutions are not subject to the 1-year rule fordeducting temporary travel expenses. See Exception for federalcrime investigations or prosecutions under TemporaryAssignment or Job in chapter 1.

Rimini RecommendationsOfficials paid on a fee basis.Certain fee-basis officials can claim their employee businessexpenses whether or not they itemize their other deductions onSchedule A (Form 1040). See Special Rules in chapter 6.

Limits that apply to employee deductions.If you are an employee, deduct your work-related expenses discussedin this publication as a miscellaneous itemized deduction on ScheduleA (Form 1040). Generally, the amount of miscellaneous itemizeddeductions you can deduct is limited to the amount that is more than2% of your adjusted gross income. It may be further limited if youradjusted gross income is more than $126,600 ($63,300) if you aremarried filing separately). How to report your expenses is covered inchapter 6.
