Make a Wish trip, click for large image Brian is the younger guy in the red hat What, why and how, and message from B-Dawg's family | Brian Armstrong, or B-Dawg, is 17 and a Junior from Ipswich, MA. Like most 17 year olds he has gotten his drivers license and loves to hang with friends. | | Unlike most 17 year olds, B-Dawg needs a double lung transplant. He was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at the age of two. | Last year he was put on the list for the transplant because of an infection that is resistant to antiobiotics causing his lung capacity to drop to 36%. | | There is no possibility of reversing this damage, his condition will only continue to worsen. | Organ donors are the TOP priority. We need to find two live donors that will each donate a lobe of their lungs. Lobe donor qualifications | | Organ donor questionaire | | Initially, the donors will lose about 15-20% of their lung capacity, but most is recovered as their remaining lobes expand to fill their chest cavity. | | Contact MGH Transplant 617-726-6162, to be tested as an organ donor for Brian. Breath For B-Dawg is a group of friends and relatives banding together to raise $100,000, the amount determined by the organ donation organization. | | This money will be used to help reimburse donors salaries lost during recovery (approximately 3 weeks), expenses incurred for travel to and from hospital, etc. With this money in place, donors will be more reassured they will incur NO expenses | | Please consider attending one the events listed. | | There is also a place to make a straight donation. B-Dawgs friends and family thank you for your consideration. | Please e-mail this site to your friends and family by clicking on e-mail a friend" link above. His son Gunnar is 14 and has CF. Boomer has his own Foundation which has raised millions of dollars for CF research. He also offers scholarships and grants to CF families in need. It was really neat to hear someone of his celebrity status talk about doing his sons treatments, packing up all his meds when they travel, and the anxiety of having a teenager with a life-threatening illness who doesn't always make the wisest choices regarding his health. He was very down-to-earth and made us feel like we were all in the same boat. He spoke with each of us personally after the presentation and signed a football for Brian.
