Organ donors are the TOP priority.
We need to find two live donors that will each donate a lobe of their lungs. Humans are born with 3 lobes on their left side and two on the right.
A person who is interested in donating needs to be:
Initially, the donors will lose about 15-20% of their lung capacity, but most is recovered as their remaining lobes expand to fill theirchest cavity.
YOUR BLOOD TYPE:
If you don't know their blood type, you can donate blood at the RedCross and you will be given their blood type. If you've ever had surgery, your blood type should be part of your medical record. If none ofthe above, you can go to your regular doctor, ask for a blood testand our fund will pay for it!!! It's an expensive test and Mass.General will not do it as part of testing for donors. But if you gothrough your MD, just send us the bill or a receipt and the "fund"will reimburse you.
