Welcome to Newport, where we're preserving the treasure of the Oregon Coast. From our beaches and forest, our world-class aquarium and marine science facilities, century-old lighthouses and year-round population of great gray whales, to the largest commercial fishing harbor on the Oregon coast, we've got something for everyone. Whatever your dream, there's a place for you here.

Treasures abound in Newport - spend a weekend or a week, and enjoy the best of everything the Oregon coast has to offer. Each of the following activities can be done in a couple of hours, but the more time you spend, the more you'll find to discover.

An abundance of marine life, wonderful walking paths and gorgeous coastal views, the 100-acre Yaquina Head juts a mile out into the Pacific Ocean. Climb the Oregon Coast's tallest working lighthouse. Watch for resident or migrating gray whales. Explore the world's only universally accessible tidepools. Discover a diversity of nesting seabirds. Visit the new Yaquina Head Interpretive Center. Walk the trails at Yaquina Head for spectacular views.

River, Bay, Ocean. Spend a day on the water or take to one of our six scenic beaches. Everything you need is available for rent or for hire. It's a water world be part of it. Charter a boat to whale watch. Cruise the bay, the ocean, or the deep sea. Go crabbing or clamming. Fish from the rocks, from the docks, or simply floating in the bay.

Get a close up look at our marine and coastal life at the Oregon Coast Aquarium, one of the world's top-ranked aquariums. Visit one of the largest walk-through aviaries in America. Meet Aialik, the Aquarium's playful sea otter. Explore fascinating exhibits. Wander among six acres of rocky cliffs, tidepools and trails.

Next, a quick jog over the Bridge takes you to the Mark O Hatfield Marine Science Center where nearly 300 working research scientists peer deeply into the mysteries of the deep. Interactive exhibits let you share their discoveries, from tidepools and starfish to whales and volcanoes.

camere Ohrid We have six great beaches to make your own. Fly a kite. Experience the season - from storm watching to sunbathing. Build a sandcastle. Beachcomb for shoreline treasures. Walk or jog along miles of sandy beach. Enjoy our breathtaking sunsets.

On the NW side of the bay, a legacy of ghosts and spooky tales surrounds Yaquina Bay lighthouse, Newport's oldest building. Tour the lighthouse. Take the trail to the beach and sand dunes. Explore the north jetty. Watch spectacular sunsets from the viewpoint.

Newport is full of opportunities for active sports from golf, tennis, biking and hiking to a treasure-trove of interesting shops, stores and galleries. A 10 minute drive takes you to some of the best antique shopping on the coast.

Named the West Coast's "Most Romantic Beach" by Sunset Magazine, Nye Beach offers a window into the gracious coast of the past. Tour the area's many shops, galleries and restaurants.

Newport's Performing Arts Center is the showplace for the Oregon Coast's rich and varied arts community. The Center attracts national performances and is home for two local theater companies, three local dance companies and music groups. Be sure to catch a show.

It used to be that the only way to get to Newport was to travel one full day by horse or carriage and then row to shore. So today, when you get off the plane, visit the Oregon Coast History Center to see the past come to life. After that, visit the Newport Visual Arts Center. Home to the many artists and art lovers on the Central Oregon Coast. Like you.

This is just the start of what Newport has to offer. An ambitious person could do it in a day or two - but why would you want to? Settle in, take your time: new treasures wait around every corner. For once, time is on your side.
