What is a "Show n Sell"?

A "Show n Sell" is a sale where a den (or group of scouts) sets upa table at a local store and sells popcorn to the customers as they enter orleave the store.  You have a supply of popcorn with you, so there is noneed to deliver popcorn later.

When can we sell?

Sales can be anytime from October 5th thru October 24th.

Where do we sell?

You can sell at any store where the store manager has okayed your sale. Some places where sales have been held at in the past are: Wal-Mart, SentryFoods, and Kohl's Food Store.  Other store possibilities are Kmart andRainbow Foods.  I know that Pick n Save, Jewel, and Menards have alreadysaid no to past sales.  If you have other places in mind, please feel freeto try them.  If you decide to sell at Kohl's Food Emporium in Pewaukee, please contact Mark Toby to schedule a time. DO NOT contact the store manager at Kohl's!  They have turned toscheduling over to me and only Pack 13 can sell at their store.

How do we get the popcorn?

Once you have arranged a date and time for your sale, please contact MarkToby to set up a time to pick up your popcorn.  Please don't delay toolong to contact him.  Sometimes there is more than one sale going at a timeand once we are out of popcorn, we can't have any more sales.

How do we keep track of what we sold?

When you pick up the popcorn you will get an order sheet just like you getfor individual sales.  This sheet will have a beginning inventory onit.  Verify the popcorn you get with what is on the sheet.  As yousell popcorn, make a tally mark on the sheet.  When you turn back in theunsold popcorn you will need to turn in the money to cover any popcorn notturned in.

Who decides who gets the credit?

The person/den leader running the sale has full authority todecide how much credit is given to each worker.  When the tally sheet isturned in, a list of workers also needs to be turned in.  Along side thelist, note how much credit each scout should get (either percentage or dollaramount).  If the scout worked extra hard, they could get more credit than ascout who goofed around the whole time.  It's up to the person running thesale!

Can people write checks?

Customers are welcome to write checks for the popcorn.  Please make surethe checks are written out to PACK 13.  Verify that the numericalamount of the check is the same as the textual amount.  Lastly, make surethat their phone number is on the check.  We need that in case thereis a problem with a check.

What do we do with the unsold popcorn?

As soon as possible after the sale, please return the unsold popcorn to MarkToby.  It would probably be best if you made drop off arrangements atthe time that you pick up the popcorn.  Remember, when you turn the popcornback in, you will also need to turn in the money and the tally sheet (with abreakdown of sales by scout).

What do we do if we run out of popcorn?

If you run out of popcorn with more than a 1/2 an hour left in the sale, contact Mark Toby to see if he has any more andcan drop it off.  I cannot guarantee that I can get you the popcorn intime, but I'll try. (I hate to see any sales get turned away!)

How should the scouts be scheduled?

I would suggest keeping the sales to 4 hours or less.  Schedule only 1-3scouts to work at any one time.  Keep the scheduled work time for eachscout to 2 hours or less so the scouts don't get bored or antsy.  Scouts MUSTwear their uniforms for the sale.  If they don't have their uniform, theyshouldn't sell.  Please, don't let the scouts mob the customers.  Thescouts should take turns approaching customers (1 scout per customer).

What do we do with donations?

Bohinjsko Jezero hotel bookingSome customer won't want to buy popcorn but will give a donationinstead.  This is ok.  This money is kept by the den.  I wouldsuggest keeping the money together and use it for a den activity.  Pleasekeep track of the donations and report it on your tally sheet.

What should we bring to a sale?

When you talk to the Store Manager, find out if they can supply a table andchairs.  If not, you will have to bring your own.  Have the scoutsmake up a popcorn sale sign telling people that it's a fundraiser for Pack13.  Also, make little price tags for the different price points ($7, $10,$15, $25, and $30).  A folded over index card works just fine.  Please, donot write on the popcorn.  Nobody wants to buy popcorn that looks"used".  You will also need to bring along a supply of smallbills as a "bank".  You will probably be able to get some changefrom the store, but it really helps a sale if you don't have to run and getchange while the customer waits.
